Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods Ltd. Donates to the Tobacco Caye Marine Station’s Annual Lionfish Tournament

The Tobacco Caye Marine Station is a Belizean NGO providing educational and research opportunities to both local and study abroad students.  This year, they held their two-day Lionfish Tournament on July 28th & 29th. The tournament featured events that contribute toward lionfish awareness and research. Among the events were a lionfish spearing competition and a lionfish cooking competition.

The organization has made several efforts to remove the invasive lionfish species around the area of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve, with over 1000 lionfish having been removed, and an additional 393 being removed as a result of the tournament.

Marie Sharp’s was happy to donate a crate of our most popular habanero sauces to pair perfectly with the tasty lionfish dishes made in the cooking competition. We applaud the Tobacco Caye Marine Station’s endeavors to help preserve the beauty of our barrier reef.

Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods has been a proud Belizean company since 1981, providing farm-to-table fresh products to the entire world.
